"In the
Beginning" - does this prove that Jesus is God?
In John 1:1 and Genesis 1:1 we find the following scriptures
:

beginning was the Word and the Word was with
God.........

From the greek and hebrew, we see a common theme,
namely "in the beginning".
But how does this help us?
Well if we read many translations literally ( assuming
they are translated accurately Best-Bibles + more),
we would see that Jesus was with
God "In the
beginning" and that God created the earth "In the beginning".
But what does this mean?
Well, remember the context in which the creation of the earth applies - we as
humans have the creation of the earth
as the absolute reference for our world,
and time, as we know it. So from a human view, "In the beginning"
means
the creation of the
earth.
But why does this mean Jesus is not God?
Well as we see in scripture :
(a) Jesus is the first creation of God -
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every
creation" ( Collosians
(b) and Gods only begotten son
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not perish,
but have eternal
life." ( John
(c) through Jesus all things came into being.
"For by him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities-- all things have
been created through him and for him."( Collossians
(d) and Jesus was the earliest creation of God :
"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write These things
saith the Amen the faithful and true.
witness the beginning of the creation of
God". (
So.......................How
can we justify saying that Jesus is NOT God?
Well so far we have seen Jesus is the earliest creation by God.
"In the beginning" is the creation of the earth by God, but its viewed from our point of view - the beginning of human-
kinds existance. The Bible is a book for
humans, so God wrote it for us to read - so it
had to make sense from our perspective.
So......"In the beginning" is from the creation of the earth.
Likewise since Jesus was the firstborn of all creation (
Jesus was created BEFORE the earth was creaded )
We see this clearly in the Psalms 8:24-30 ( below ) :
"When [there were] no depths, I was brought forth; when [there were] no
fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor
the highest part of the dust of the world.
When he prepared the heavens, I [was] there: when he set a compass upon the face
of the depth:
When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the
deep:
When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his
commandment: when he appointed the foundations
of the earth: Then
I was by him, [as] one brought up [with him]: and I was daily [his] delight,
rejoicing always before him;"
( Psalms 8:23-30 )
This does NOT take away from Gods exalted position as THE Supreme Being at all.
"Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things
above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God." ( Collosians 3:1 )
So in summary - Jesus was WITH God BEFORE the earths
creation, but was BEGOTTEN by God.
In the beginning is actually irrelevant as we have seen - as Jesus was there at
the creation of the earth as he
was created BEFORE
the earth. But this does NOT make Jesus God. God created Jesus as his first
ever creation.
If Jesus is created, he is NOT the
creator. To suggest anything else defies scripture.

In the past, commentators and translators who held to the
Trinity/Oneness and No Jesus before Mary doctrines argued that qa·nah´
should here be rendered “possessed.” Qa·nah´ can convey the sense of
either “acquire (possess)” or “produce.” (Gen. 4:1; Deut. 32:6; Ps. 139:13;
Neh. 5:16) But scholars acknowledge that the context here points to the
rendering “produced” or “created,” since verses 24 and 25 speak of Wisdom as being
“brought forth “
This rendering is borne out by the Greek Septuagint, the Syriac Peshitta
Version and the Targums. So now even translations by Trinitarians, such
as the Catholic Jerusalem Bible, use the rendering “produced” or
