1 Long ago, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets in many places and in many ways. 2 And in the last part of these days, He spoke to us through a Son who he made the heir to everything... the one that He used to create the (open)  ages. 3 He shines with the same glory, is (open) the exact image of His being, and is responsible for everything that’s said through His power. And after he cleansed us of our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Great One in the highest places. 4 He has become so much greater than the [other] messengers [of God] and so different, that he has inherited a [special] name among them.

5 For example, to which of His [other] messengers did He ever say, ‘You’re my son. Today I’ve become your father.’ Or, ‘I will become his Father and he will become My son.’ 6 And again, when He brings His (open)  firstborn into the earth He says, ‘Let all of God’s messengers bow low to him.’

And the very image of his substance" is somewhat ambiguous in the common versions; and the scholars give its meaning variously

Vine’s substance---- in Heb. 1:3,

<1,,3776,ouisia>
derived from a present participial form of eimi, "to be," denotes "substance, property," Luke 15:12,13, RV, "substance," AV, "goods" and "substance."

<4,,5287,hupostasis>
for which see CONFIDENCE, A No. 2, is translated "substance" (a) in Heb. 1:3, of Christ as "the very image" of God's "substance;" here the word has the meaning of the real nature of that to which reference is made in contrast to the outward manifestation (see the preceding clause); it speaks of the Divine essence of God existent and expressed in the revelation of His Son. The AV, "person" is an anachronism; the word was not so rendered till the 4th cent. Most of the earlier Eng. versions have "substance;" (b) in Heb. 11:1 it has the meaning of "confidence, assurance" (RV), marg., "the giving substance to," AV, "substance," something that could not equally be expressed by elpis, "hope."

http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Anachronism  - something located at a time when it could not have existed or occurred One of the most common uses of the term restricts it to the ante-dating of events, circumstances or customs. It can be used to imply a neglect or falsification, whether deliberate or accidental, of chronological relation.

The eternal existence of Christ, (sbt-notes Bonus) his deity, incarnation, and visit to humanity as "the Dayspring from on high" (Luke 1:78) - these are all in view here.
