He is reared
according to the directions of God, and whilst still a
young man "the Spirit of God moves
him," "strikes" him repeatedly and with increasing force, as the
smith hits and welds the glowing metal on the anvil with his hammer;
"pierces him "through and through till his
pain-born patriotism is unsupportable and he flings himself against the
Philistines with the crushing weight of an avalanche.
Why is Jesus the only way to Heaven?
The Bible gives us several evidences as to why Jesus is the key to the kingdom of God. 1 Peter 2:4 tells us that Jesus was chosen by God to be the
Savior. John tells us that no one else has ever
come down from Heaven and then returned. Hebrews points out that Jesus lived a perfect
life without sin.
If God is a Trinity and we say Jesus is
God, then we are saying that Jesus is a Trinity. But that is not true. So in
one sense, the term "God" can be used to designate the totality of
God as a Trinity, and in another sense, it deals with the divine nature. The
correct answer is that Jesus is both divine and human.
suggestion carried in that pair of statements is that Jesus and God are identical.
Comments along those lines have enraged Jesus' critics in the past (John ;
Here, faced with an overtly hostile crowd, in
tight quarters, with men armed for violence (John ),
Jesus connects those dots without the slightest hint of subtlety: "I and
the Father are one." Part of the meaning of this statement is lost in
translation from Greek to English. Jesus uses the "neuter" form of
the Greek word for "one" here, implying that they are "unity."
Rather than saying that Jesus and God are the same person, Jesus is claiming that He and God are unified
as one, a partial explanation of the Trinity.
Unsurprisingly, this tips the mob's anger over the
top, and they start another attempt to assassinate Jesus.
