And I saw the ^R995 souls of those who had been beheaded because of their ^F230 testimony ^R996 of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped ^R997 the beast or his image, and had not received the mark ^R998 on their forehead and on their hand; and they came ^R999 to life and reigned ^R1000 with Christ for a thousand years. ^5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This ^R1001 is the first resurrection. ^6 Blessed ^R1002 and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second ^R1003 death has no power, but they will be priests ^R1004 of God and of Christ and will reign ^R1005 with Him for a thousand years. 20:1-15 - Study Chapter

The Thousand Years 1-6

¹ I saw an angel come down from heaven, carrying the key to the deep pit and a big chain. ² He chained the dragon for a thousand years. It is that old snake, who is also known as the devil and Satan. ³ Then the angel threw the dragon into the pit. He locked and sealed it, so that a thousand years would go by before the dragon could fool the nations again. But after that, it would have to be set free for a little while.

⁴ I saw thrones, and sitting on those thrones were the ones who had been given the right to judge. I also saw the souls of the people who had their heads cut off because they had told about Jesus and preached God's message. They were the same ones who had not worshiped the beast or the idol, and they had refused to let its mark be put on their hands or foreheads. They will come to life and rule with Christ for a thousand years.

^5-6 These people are the first to be raised to life, and they are especially blessed and holy. The second death ^F57 has no power over them. They will be priests for God and Christ and will rule with them for a thousand years.

No other dead people were raised to life until a thousand years later. 20:1-15 – Open Study Chapter
