The Second to the Thessalonians

1:6 to 2:12

6 This takes into account that it is righteous on God’s part to repay tribulation to those who make tribulation for YOU, 7 but, to YOU who suffer tribulation, relief along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels 8 in a flaming fire, as he brings vengeance upon those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus. 9 These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength, 10 at the time he comes to be glorified in connection with his holy ones and to be regarded in that day with wonder in connection with all those who exercised faith, because the witness we gave met with faith among YOU.

11 To that very end indeed we always pray for YOU, that our God may count YOU worthy of [his] calling and perform completely all he pleases of goodness and the work of faith with power; 12 in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in YOU, and YOU in union with him, in accord with the undeserved kindness of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 However, brothers, respecting the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we request of YOU 2 not to be quickly shaken from YOUR reason nor to be excited either through an inspired expression or through a verbal message or through a letter as though from us, to the effect that the day of Jehovah is here.

3 Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction.4 He is set in opposition and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god. 5 Do YOU not remember that, while I was yet with YOU, I used to tell YOU these things?

6 And so now YOU know the thing that acts as a restraint, with a view to his being revealed in his own due time. 7 True, the mystery of this lawlessness is already at work; but only till he who is right now acting as a restraint gets to be out of the way. 8 Then, indeed, the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will do away with by the spirit of his mouth and bring to nothing by the manifestation of his presence. 9 But the lawless one’s presence is according to the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents 10 and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved. 11 So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie, 12 in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.

2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 - [Verse 6 in Original Greek]

5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy (5683) of thekingdom of God, for which ye also suffer (5719): 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense (5629)tribulation to them that trouble (5723) you; 7 And to you who are troubled (5746) rest with us, when theLord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking (5723) vengeance on them that know (5761) not God, and that obey (5723) not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall bepunished * (5692) with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the

2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 - [Verse 1 in Original Greek]

1 Now we beseech (5719) you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken(5683) in mind, or be troubled (5745), neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand (5758).

2 Thessalonians 2:3-12 - [Verse 3 in Original Greek]

3 Let no man deceive (5661) you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come (5632) a falling away first, and that man of sin berevealed (5686), the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth (5740) and exalteth (5746) himself above all that is called (5746) God, or that is worshipped; so that heas God sitteth (5658) in the temple of God, shewing (5723) himself that he is (5748) God. 5 Remember ye (5719) not, that, when I was (5752) yet with you, I told(5707) you these things? 6 And now ye know (5758) what withholdeth (5723) that he might be revealed (5683) in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity dothalready work (5731): only he who now letteth (5723) will let, until he be taken (5638) out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed (5701), whom theLord shall consume (5692) with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy (5692) with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is (5748) after theworking of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish (5730); because they received(5662) not the love of the truth, that they might be saved (5683). 11 And for this cause God shall send (5692) them strong delusion, that they should believe(5658) a lie: 12 That they all might be damned (5686) who believed (5660) not the truth, but had pleasure (5660) in unrighteousness.
