Introduction 1 The first account I
composed, F1 Theophilus,
R1 about all that Jesus began R2 to do and teach, 2
until the day when He was R3 taken up to heaven, after
He had R4 by F2 the Holy Spirit given orders to
the R5 apostles whom He had chosen. R6 3
To these F3 He R7 also presented Himself alive
after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a
period of forty days and speaking of the R8 things concerning the kingdom of
God. 4
Gathering F4
them together, He commanded them not R9
to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what R10
F5
the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you
heard of from Me; 5
for John R11
baptized with water, but you will be baptized with F6
the Holy Spirit not R12
F7
many days from now." 6 So when they had come
together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is R13 it at this time You are
restoring the kingdom to Israel?" 7
He said to them, "It is not for you to know
times or epochs which the R14 Father has fixed by His own
authority; 8
but you will receive power when R15 the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be My R16 witnesses both in Jerusalem, and
in all Judea and Samaria, R17 and even to the R18 remotest part of the
earth." The Ascension 9 And after He had said
these things, He R19 was lifted up while they were
looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10
And as they were gazing intently into the F8 sky while He was going, behold,
two R20 men in white clothing stood
beside them. 11
They also said, "Men R21 of The Upper Room 12 Then they returned R24 to Jerusalem from the mount R25 F10 called Olivet, F11 which is near Jerusalem, a
Sabbath F12 day's journey away. 13
When they had entered the city, they went up to the R26 upper room where they were staying;
that R27 is, Peter and John and James F13 and Andrew, Philip and Thomas,
Bartholomew and Matthew, James F13 the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas R28 the son F14 of James. F13 14
These all with one mind were R29 continually devoting themselves
to prayer, along with the R30 women, and Mary the mother R31 of Jesus, and with His brothers.
R31 15 At F15 this time Peter stood up in the
midst of the R32 brethren (a gathering of about
one hundred and twenty persons F16 was there together), and said, 16
"Brethren, the R33 Scripture had to be fulfilled,
which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who R34 became a guide to those who arrested
Jesus. 17
"For he was counted R35 among us and received his share
in this R36 ministry." 18
(Now this man acquired R37 a field with the R38 price of his wickedness, and
falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed
out. 19
And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in their R39 own language that field was
called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20
"For it is written in the book of Psalms, |

The Day of Pentecost 1 When the R54 day of Pentecost had F24 come, they were all together in
one place. 2
And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and
it filled the R55 whole house where they were
sitting. 3
And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing F25 themselves, and they F26 rested F27 on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled R56
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak R57 with other tongues, F28 as the Spirit was giving them
utterance. F29 5 Now there were Jews
living in Peter's Sermon 14 But Peter, taking F38 his stand with the R72 eleven, raised his voice and
declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in 17 ` `THAT I WILL POUR 18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR And they shall prophesy. 19 ` BLOOD, 20 `THE BEFORE THE GREAT 21 ` 22 "Men of Israel,
listen to these words: Jesus R76 the Nazarene, a R77 man attested F41 to you by God with miracles F42 and wonders R78 and signs F43 which God performed through Him
in your midst, just as you yourselves know-- 23
this Man, delivered over by the predetermined R79 plan and foreknowledge of God,
you R80 nailed to a cross by the hands
of godless F44 men and put Him to death.
24
"But F45 God R81 raised Him up again, putting an
end to the agony F46 of death, since it was R82 impossible for Him to be held in
F47 its power. 25
"For David says of Him, 26 `THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD
MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL
LIVE IN HOPE;
27 BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY
SOUL TO HADES R84
, 28 `YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME
THE WAYS OF YOU WILL MAKE ME 29 "Brethren, F51 I may confidently say to you
regarding the patriarch R86 David that he both died R87 and was R88 buried, and his R89 tomb is with F52 us to this day. 30
"And so, because he was a R90 prophet and knew that GOD R91
HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF F53
HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, 31
he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the F54 Christ, that HE R92
WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES,
35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL
FOR YOUR FEET."' 36 "Therefore let all
the house R100 of Israel know for certain that
God has made Him both Lord R101 and Christ--this F58 Jesus whom R102 you crucified." The Ingathering 37 Now when they heard this,
they were pierced F59 to the heart, and said to Peter
and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, F60 what R103 F61 shall we do?" 38
Peter said to them, "Repent, R104 and each of you be baptized R105 in the name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit. 39
"For the R106 promise is for you and your
children and for all who are far R107 off, as many as the Lord our
God will call to Himself." 40
And with many other words he solemnly testified R108 and kept on exhorting them,
saying, "Be F62 saved from this perverse R109 generation!" 41
So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there
were added about three thousand souls. R110 F63 42
They were continually R111 devoting themselves to the
apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the R112 breaking of bread and to R111 F64 prayer. 43 Everyone F65 kept feeling a sense of awe; and
many wonders R113 and signs F66 were taking place through the
apostles. 44
And all those who had believed were F67 together and had R114 all things in common; 45
and they began R115 selling their property and
possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. 46
Day R116 by day continuing with one mind
in the temple, and breaking R117 bread from F68 house to house, they were taking
their meals F69 together with gladness and
sincerity F70 of heart, 47
praising God and having R118 favor with all the people. And
the Lord was R119 adding to F71 their number day by day those R120 who were being saved. |
