If he was God, wouldn’t they have known who he was?

Matthew Now when he had come
into the parts of Caes‧a‧re′a Phi‧lip′pi,Jesus went asking his disciples: “Who are
men saying the Son of man is?” 14 They said: “Some say John the Baptist, others
E‧li′jah, still others Jeremiah or one of
the prophets.” 15 He said to them: “YOU, though, who do YOU
say I am?”
Apparently, they recognized Jesus, as the son of God, and Jesus said that the Holy Spirit revealed this to them.
So then, would we be fair in concluding that to call Jesus anything but the son of God, would be to blaspheme the Spirit?
Funny abuse of the 'I am' statement.
when looking it up at blueletter, the term "I am" at John literally means "I existed", not to be confused with the "I am"
at verses like Exodus .

· There's a connection with the "I am" being God. That's why Jesus also said, "Before Abraham was, I am."
